At Onyx Dental, we only use white composite fillings rather than the older black metal amalgam fillings. Not only are they more aesthetically pleasing, they are also better for your health as they do not contain any mercury.

The type of filling used depends on the area of the mouth. If the filling is towards the back of the mouth, hard wearing fillings are used which have the strength of the black metal fillings. If however, the filling is on a highly visible surface, Dr Gurs Sehmi uses aesthetic white composite material which can be polished to have an extremely high sheen, to look like natural tooth.

In addition to the best materials, we also use the best polishing systems to ensure the edge of the filling is completely smooth, preventing staining in the long term.

In certain situation, for example where the cavity (hole) is large, Dr Gurs Sehmi may recommend a lab made restoration (such as a crown, onlay or inlay), which will give your tooth more strength.

Cosmetic contouring using white composite fillings

White composite material can be used to make small alterations to the teeth contours, such as building up chipped teeth, to give a softer appearance. The area that has a filling is polished beautifully, so that it will look like your natural tooth.

Changing black fillings
