Jaw Pain/ Muscle Pain

If you suffer from regular jaw pain, or muscular aches, around your head, neck and shoulders, then it could be coming from your teeth.

In an ideal situation, when we bite our teeth, there should be equal forces on the left and right jaw joints. If this is not the case, one of your jaw joints might be taking more load than the other. In 99% cases, you cant actually feel if it if there is abnormal jaw pressures.

In most cases, this abnormal jaw force is caused by crowns or fillings which were not shaped correctly, and hence come to contact before your other teeth. In the long term, this can cause the following symptoms:

Increased Tooth Wear

The change in the bite can cause some teeth to wear faster than others, you will only see this after a few years of the bite changing

Tooth Breakage

Abnormal stresses on the teeth can cause them to break. This is especially true for teeth with big fillings, which are already weakened.

Gum Recession

In some cases, abnormal biting forces can cause the gum around the tooth to get lower. This can easily be confused with gum disease, but it takes a skilled eye to spot the difference.

Jaw Clicking/ Popping

If your teeth don’t show the symptoms, then your jaw joint might start clicking and popping. In most cases this can go on without an real problems, but in other cases, it can be very loud, and painful. In these cases, its important to see a specialist for the jaw joint, and they might recommend treating bite problems.

Muscle Pain

Finally, if its not the teeth or the joints showing the problem, then it could be the muscles around the joints, which start to hurt after there normal motion is interrupted
