Dental Crowns
Dental Crowns are usually recommended when the tooth in question is heavily broken down, has a lot of fillings in it, or has had a root canal treatment on it.
A Crown or Cap (same thing), is a lab made false tooth which fits on top of your existing tooth, once the existing tooth has been adjusted. The crown quite often increases the strength of the tooth, and makes it less likely to break from normal biting forces.
Crowns at Onyx Dental
At Onyx Dental, the crowns we provide have to be strong, as well as look natural, as quite often they are used in the front of the mouth. We only use Emax Crowns, which don’t contain any metal.
In the past, all white crowns used to have a metal internal structure. The problem with this is that the crowns never looked natural, and over time the margins of the crown started to look black, as the metal could show through.
Many dentists still use this type of crown, but at Onyx Dental, we only use metal free crowns, which look more natural, and are just as strong, if not stronger than metal based crowns.
