Treatment For Worn Teeth
Worn teeth is a very common problem for the UK population. In most cases, the tooth wear is caused by an uneven bite, putting force on some teeth, causing them to wear down faster than others.
There are other reasons for wear, but these can only be diagnosed after a detailed consultation.
Effects Of Tooth Wear
Advanced tooth wear can result in weaker teeth, which will become much more prone to breakage, which has functional and cosmetic consequences.
Worn and broken teeth can cause pain, discomfort, and result in difficulty in eating your favourite foods.
From an aesthetic point of view, worn front teeth can be embarrassing, as it can give the impression that you don’t care about your appearance, even if this is not the case.
Worn teeth can also prematurely age your appearance, as less tooth is shown when you talk, and this is a subtle age related change.
Other symptoms of tooth wear can be jaw ache or muscle ache, and you might even notice that certain teeth have a very high gum line- which is often confused with gum disease.
What can be done?
Treating excessive tooth wear is quite complex, as your whole bite usually needs to be reset. After this is done, in most cases, your front 10 teeth should be built up, possibly using crowns and maybe veneers.
During the treatment, you should notice that your new bite will feel more comfortable, and therefore, your new teeth will last longer, due to the bite being re-set.
