What is Tooth Re-Contouring?

Tooth Re-Contouring is a procedure used to reshape teeth, correct small chips and imperfections, remove bulges, and change the length of teeth. It can also be used to create spaces between teeth if they are crowded and overlapping, in order to help prevent areas of plaque build up to form.
The procedure involves removing surface area of the tooth (enamel) and can be combined with cosmetic composite white filling material or veneers, to create a beautiful smile.

Does the procedure hurt?

In most cases, since only fine surface adjustments are being made the process will not be painful.  Also, in nearly all cases, anaesthetic will not be required.  If the enamel is very weak, or if the tooth is fractured or has a large chip, Dr Gurs Sehmi may recommend other procedures such as veneers or crowns instead.

Combining Tooth Re-Contouring with Cosmetic White Fillings

At Onyx Dental we offer Re-Contouring in combination with defining and building up teeth with cosmetic white filling material, which is a cheaper alternative to veneers. We use the best composite materials and polishing systems available to ensure a highly polished end result. Unlike veneers the appearance will dull over time, so regular polishing visits will be required every year.
