Smile Makeovers
If you are striving for perfection, and a simple case of teeth whitening just won’t do, then a smile makeover might be for you.
No matter where we are starting from, we can design and sculpt the perfect smile for you, getting the right tooth shape, curvature, and texture to suit your face and body.
Dr Sehmi can reconstruct a beautiful smile, using the key smile principles below:
Smile Line
The bottom line of all the teeth should make a nice arc, which is parallel to the top border of the lower lip
Golden Proportions
The width of the central teeth, side teeth, canines, and all the back teeth should gradually get thinner, when looking from the front. The width should reduce with the golden proportion, a natural proportion seen all through nature
Tooth Proportions
The central teeth should have a width to height ratio of 75-80%, with the height being about 10-11mm.
Tooth showing at rest
With your lips at rest, a young lady might show 4-5mm of top tooth, where an elderly gentleman might show 1-2mm. Showing the right amount of tooth at rest is key in designing the right smile for you.
Tooth Curvature
A more curved tooth corner will soften the smile, and is normally associated with feminine features, where as a larger, and harder corner to the tooth is far more masculine.
Tooth Colour
As we age, our teeth will become darker, and more yellow. Restoring a whiter smile quickly rejuvenates the smile.
Tooth Inclination
A tooth which tilts inward will deflect light downward, making it appear darker and smaller. Similarly, a tooth which is in-standing can look a lot darker, as it wont catch the same amount of light as a tooth which is in the normal tooth line.
Symmetry is Everything
The most important bit to get perfectly symmetrical is the central teeth, and more importantly, the central part of these teeth. Not only does the colour, length, texture and inclination need to be right, but the gum shape should also be symmetrical.
This list only contains some of the important things we look at when redesigning your smile. Ultimately, all these things are guidelines, but they are a good starting point.
When redesigning a smile, we always refine the trial smile for over an hour, so that we can be sure you have the right teeth for your smile. Then, a week later – we refine it more, until you are happy with the trial smile, and only then do we commit to giving you the perfect smile!
